The Algoa Bus Company has launched free Wi-Fi for all its commuters on its fleet of buses servicing Nelson Mandela Bay as part of the Iziwe Connection campaign.
“The Algoa Bus Company has been providing services to commuters of Nelson Mandela Bay since 1991, and is always seeking new ways of improving the services that we offer,” said Algoa Bus Company’s CEO Sicelo Duze.
“Our core focus is to provide our commuters with an affordable, safe and reliable service and now we are adding connectivity to the mix,” he said.
Duze said the first phase of the Wi-Fi project would see 200 buses across various routes being fitted with Wi-Fi routers that would allow commuters to connect to the internet free of charge while on the move. The second phase is to be completed before the end of the year.
“This means our passengers will be able to do their assignments, email and communicate with friends on social media at no cost while commuting,” he said.
Duze said that buses form a vital part of public transport in the city.
“We offer affordable transport through regulated fares, which means you can budget for your transport needs ahead of time, with no unforeseen costs.”
Duze said the company also had a strong emphasis on safety and security, having recently installed CCTV cameras in their buses to improve on-board security , installed drop safes for fair collections to deter opportunity crimes, and in addition to the Road Accident Fund, maintains public liability insurance to cover anyone traveling in the vehicles.
“This means that our passengers can travel with the peace of mind that, in the unlikely event that something does happen while travelling with us, they are covered,” he said.
Duze said the company had also recently introduced a journey planner application for people on the move.
“Our application allows users to plan their route and gives them direct access to our timetables and departure schedules, which means they can get to their destination on time, every time,” he said.
