Toddler electrucuted by illegal wiring

A toddler was electrocuted while playing in the garden of a New Brighton home on Monday.

Police spokesman Captain Andre Beetge said Luniko Njikilanga, 15 months, died after touching a section of the fence around a garden in the Chris Hani informal settlement.

Njikilanga was found by his aunt, Portia, 19, who was looking after him as his mother Andisiwe,18, was out.

Police found that the fence was leaning against the neighbours’ iron shack, which had an illegal power connection.

An inquest case is under investigation.
